Today’s walk takes you around lively San Lorenzo area—the birthplace of Medici family riches and
power. You will see Palazzo Medici—Florence's first Renaissance mansion—and splendid Medici
tombs sculpted by Michelangelo as well as Biblioteca Laurenziana designed by him (though not
always open). Both are near splendid 18th-century Central Market; strolling through here offers
insights into Florentine cuisine as you observe butchers, bakers, and farmers selling fresh produce.
